We admit patients & discharge them, order tests and place orders for meals and treatments... On one hand, it feels like physicians have significant importance within the healthcare environment, but then on the other hand, somebody’s trying to stick a thermometer in the patient’s mouth while you’re talking to them... Or transport interrupts, saying “this patient is going to X-Ray.”

Really?!?

I’m all for being a team-player, but even on actual teams, they take special care of their quarterbacks, right?

While doctors have a profound role in controlling the comings, goings, and resource utilization, my thought is that we are most able to do it, when we are allowed to do it with little interference.

Am I wrong?
